Take a Crack at These Egg Recipes
The egg is an incredibly diverse food. Eggs are an integral part of a myriad of different dishes. An egg can be boiled, scrambled, fried and added to recipes for baked goods, such as cakes and cookies.
Packed with 13 essential vitamins and minerals and high amounts of protein per serving the egg contains only about 70 calories. Eggs are excellent for someone on a diet or if they have specific dietary restrictions. Contained in this delectable creation of nature is choline. Choline is an essential nutrient that aids keeping a healthy functioning brain.
Whether it’s omelets or sunny side up on the hot skillet, eggs are a common sight at breakfast. One reason why is that eggs are one of the easiest foods to cook, so if you are a novice chef eggs are perfect to start with. It is a great food item for children to start cooking with. Most basic egg recipes are very convenient to put together, they do not take a lot of time to prepare. Eggs are also are fairly easy to clean up
Eggs can also be eaten on their own. One method is boiled. It is easy and can be saved for later or taken on the go. Eggs are also a common sight during Easter, when the egg is decoratively colored and are enjoyed by the young and old.
To make hard boiled eggs, first you want to take some eggs into a pot and pour about one inch of water over the eggs. Next turn on medium heat and wait for the water to boil. Once the water has reached its boiling point immediately turn off the heat and let it sit. Depending on the type of egg that you prefer a soft boiled egg should sit in the hot water for about four minutes. If you desire a hardboiled egg you should let them sit for about fifteen minutes.
The deviled egg is a wholesome finger smacking food that is shared at many family functions, holidays and reunions. Deviled Eggs are commonly served as hors d’oeuvres in many households across the country. The term deviled egg was first derived in the 18th century referencing to the zesty flavor it possesses. So this recipe is a must. To start your ingredients will consist of:
6 hard-boiled eggs
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 green onion, very thinly sliced (slice a little of the green and keep separate from white)
a few leaves of fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped, optional
freshly ground black pepper
salt, to taste
paprika (optional)
First take each egg and cut them into halves and scoop out the yolk into a bowl. Next you want to add mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. If it is preferred you can tweak the ratios of mayonnaise to Dijon mustard if you are a person who like more than the other or just more in general. You want to stir till a consistency is of your liking.
Next add the onions and stir them in along with the chopped parsley. Put salt and pepper in to taste. Take a spoon and scoop the mixture back into the halved eggs. Paprika can be lightly sprinkled on top of the egg for an effect. Serve chilled.
Due to the high amounts of cholesterol contained in eggs, and the emergence of a more health centric society, some people might have to limit their intake of eggs. Eggs whites are one way to enjoy eggs and still stay health conscious. An herbed spinach egg white omelet can easily be made in about ten minutes. Still tasty and good for the body and soul, this low fat recipe cannot be turned down. The ingredients include:
3 egg whites
1 tablespoon nonfat milk
1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
Freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup chopped fresh baby spinach
1 tablespoon reduced-fat shredded sharp cheddar or grated parmesan
In a bowl combine and stir together the egg whites, herbs and milk together. Put medium heat to a cooking pan that has been coated with non stick cooking spray.
Next put the chopped spinach into the pan and as it begins to wilt slowly pour the egg white mixture on top. Watch the mixture go to the edge of the pan. When it begins to set on the edges take a spatula to the omelet and lift allowing the remaining eggs whites to run from underneath. Once the omelet is set fully sprinkle cheese on top if desired and enjoy.
